In my opinion, this is the best Star Wars movie as it is the only last movie of the trilogies that ends in heartbreak and victory of the Sith. Revenge of the Sith showcased the fall of the Republic, the Jedi Purge, and leading up to the Galactic Civil War beautifully.
**SPOILER ALERT (I know, this was released over a decade earlier)
We watched as Anakin, burdened by his duty to the Jedi and Republic but also his wife, Padme, can no longer balance the two, and when he is forced to make a choice, he makes the worst possible one. He Falls and betrays everything he once stood for, which is incredibly ironic, because he Fell to save Padme, but blinded by the Dark Side, ended up killing her at the end. People didn't like Hayden Christensen's acting, but I thought he portrayed Anakin's turn into Darth Vader perfectly. You can see how Anakin Skywalker, the poster boy of the Republic turns into a monster, the living embodiment of hate and fear in A New Hope. He makes countless terrible decisions, from killing Dooku to refusing to tell Yoda the whole story, and all this culminates in his slaughtering the Temple including the younglings.
We watched as Palpatine rapidly consolidated power and as the people of the Republic feared another war as the Clone Wars came to an end, they also made terrible choices and cheered as Palpatine turned the Republic into an Empire and declared himself Emperor. He revealed his true nature to Anakin and the Jedi and proved his terrifying Sith abilities by killing 3 Council Members in seconds. We watched as his manipulation of Anakin for 14 years, nurturing his resentment of the Jedi and of Obi-Wan, finally came to an end as Anakin fell under his sway and to the Dark Side.
We watched as Jedi after Jedi fell after their clone troopers - who they never thought would turn on them - killed them. We saw Yoda's reaction as he FELT his friends die. 10,000 Jedi before Order 66, resulting in 200 after, most of which were hunted down by Vader and the Inquisitors during the period between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. Of course, the Jedi were not without fault. In their hubris, they failed to detect the Sith Master right under their noses and Palpatine's manipulation of Anakin for 14 years. However, it ultimately is a tragedy how the people spat on the Jedi's sacrifice of fighting in the war and cheered when they were declared enemies of the state.
Revenge of the Sith showed the events that lead up to A New Hope perfectly. It was tragic and soooooo heartbreaking, especially after Obi-Wan and Padme realize what Anakin has done. 30/10 recommend.
If you didn't like it, read Matthew Stover's novelization. I read the novelization, and the first page made me cry. The first chapter made me cry more. It's my favourite book, and since I really love reading, that's saying something
