When I heard of a live action little mermaid I was on the edge of my seat. And even though Ariel didn’t look like the Ariel I had grown up loving, I was still all for it.
I took my 6 year old daughter and 8 year old niece to see the little mermaid and honestly we all left pretty disappointed. People say the kids won’t to see the difference in the little mermaid. But as soon as Ariel popped on the screen, both of my kids said that is not the little mermaid, that’s not Ariel. And honestly I totally agree.
The acting was great, especially by Melissa McCarthy she really did capture Ursula completely. She is Ursula. Ariel and Eric did phenomenal as well. I am happy. They kept Eric as the man that we all grew up loving.
As for the movie, they changed way too much stuff. They added in songs, took out major scenes from the original, (Including Ariel’s dinner with Eric!) and honestly Ariel’s singing was super pitchy. They also made the animals look super creepy.
Another big thing that really shocked me when Ursula is changing her self into a human, she’s like looking for the potion, and when she finally find that she picks it up, and it looked like a baby fetus. She throws it into the pot and then all of a sudden she’s human. That shocked me I’m not sure if I’m the only one that seen a baby fetus but that’s definitely what it looks like.
They also changed that Eric has parents. In the original, Eric’s father had passed in a shipwreck and that is why Grimsby is trying so hard to find Eric a wife, searching for the mysterious girl, who saved his life with an enchanting voice. That instantly made me kind of mad.
But overall, three out of five for me. Also, don’t waste your money Going to the movie to see it. If anything buy Disney+ it’s cheaper.
