When you work with scientists or with academics , you soon realise only a few are prepared to think outside the box or break from traditional thought,driven,as they are, by the orthodoxy of “imperical” thought. As was once pointed out to me, scientists and academics have a lot of taught knowledge but very little common sense. I do feel, however, that we are on the verge of a huge leap forward in regard to an understanding of who we are and why we are, and that this new understanding is being driven by the information age that is allowing a myriad of suppressed or unheard voices to be heard.

There are two good things about this film ; Gina Carano and the gunfights. Gina Carano is a strongly built woman who looks capable of doing the things she does in this film. How many films with female action leads do you see with women who don’t look strong enough to carry their own luggage. I am noticing that in a lot of modern films people who suffer bullet wounds behave in a more realistic way. Pain, bleeding, shock and crawling around wondering if what just happened is going to be fatal. Firing three shots into someone’s chest by putting the pistol directly onto the chest is, yes, going to be fatal.

A really, really good series. Keeps you guessing. Some really believable badass female characters.

Beautifully filmed and wonderfully acted by an ensemble cast. But the stand out is Rafe Spaulding who shows how to play an evil character without overdoing it. A fine example of Western noir that moves beyond the revisionist western genre.
