They didn't just stop at butchering the story, they butchered the dialog and they butchered the characters. Aang is far too serious, telling off everybody without self doubt of his ability or desire to mount exotic creatures. Iroh was my favourite character but here his relationship with zuko has changed: I.e. he tells zuko he has trained enough when in the anime he hasn't mastered the basics. Azula simply has no cunning nor smirks. Sokka is not a comedian who laughs at his own jokes. There's no chemistry between Katara and Aang. I could go on... As for the story, so much was cut they they seemingly had to invent new episodes and dialog to rush through characters who should show up again later. At least the cabbage seller got a moment. The dialog is cringeworthy. It didn't need reinventing! It sounds like filler between special effects scenes to make up for the time made from excluded parts of the original story line. The only redeeming characteristics are the special effects and costume design. If you're a fan of the original anime, don't watch this.
