It’s an extraordinary historical fiction which seems more history than fiction. It is an essentially romantic novel woven around the central character of beauty defining Wazir Khanam but also vividly describes those times of Mughal period. The lives of the rulers, nobles, elite, British officials, artists and poets and of common man have been depicted beautifully. One can read the novel even for enjoying the Urdu and Persian poetry which has been beautifully interspersed throughout. The author has done extensive research to write this masterpiece.
