I had a hard time getting into the show initially, but after a few episodes the characters developed and it has been quite good right up to the penultimate episode* of season 1. There is the right balance of comedy and relatability. The young daughter really made us laugh and is a spot on portrayal of a teenage daughter. There are definitely some unrealistic parts; for example, I can't imagine a married housewife with three kids leaving on short notice for a trip to San Diego with her friend without major drama at home. But it's completely believable that a married person looking for direction from their life might like to escape to their friends bar from time to time.
For those critiquing the Aussie accent that comes and goes, I think it's a pretty authentic portrayal (people with fixed mindsets never break the accent they grew up with, many others can shift their accent bc of mood, to mirror the group they're with, and the shifts reflect the two sides of Sylvia's character).
*I feel like the writing could have been tighter with Johnny Rev / lot of discussing him in earlier episodes without making an appearance, and episode 8 seems slapped together when he does make an appearance. Rather than developing some new depth episode 8 seems to rush towards a simple end and I hope it is redeemed/justified with the final episode.
