This book is terrible. I, not exaggerating, was physically repulsed by this book on multiple occasions. The main character has a pretty inconsistent personality, the third part of the book was completely unnecessary, as was the racist best friend, and oh, the subplots. There were so many subplots that did nothing but fill the pages. The missing koi, the non stop muck fire (which, btw, is completely unrealistic as muck fires can only burn for a few months max), and the house that was constantly struck by lightning, to name a few. None of these moved the plot forward. At all. And can I mention the racist undertones? In general, don’t spend your money on this book, buy something actually good. Like Miss Peregrine’s home for Peculiar children, or Keeper of the Lost Cities.
