I echo the other reviewers. This was one of the best series of the past fifteen years and it’s a shame it was not continued, season 2 had a cliffhanger ending - lots of threads could have been picked up. The acting is superb and the themes so contemporary -migration, racism, corruption. I binge watched it on Netflix, both seasons. I am not sure I watched it when it came out in 2011, probably not , I would have remembered it. What a treat! Let’s have more drama productions like this one, please. I will probably watch it again, there is so much in it - and I do not normally watch something more than once!

I would like to add my opinion. I have greatly admired the 1999 movie with Matt Damon as Ripley and have made a point of watching it again. It is still excellent. Just different. I absolutely loved the series, loved Scott’s performance, he really brings out Ripley’s sociopathy. I thought that shooting in black and white was a stroke of genius! Loved the amazing views of the Amalfi coast. Not to mention the soundtrack, ‘Il cielo in una stanza’ and Mina are reference points at different moments. Hildegard de Stefano has a small role as Mina Mazzini and she is absolutely mesmerising, it was a perfect moment in episode 2. Please do watch this series, everything is absolute perfection.
