Absolutely loved this book. Many & varied characters, some real & some not, so varying truths amongst the fiction. A large part of the novel was set on board a passenger liner at the beginning of World War 2 with many escaping from certain death had they stayed in their birth country. The author slipping from some characters with the reader wondering with bated breath what will happen next, then on to others and left in suspense also as to their continuing fate until one met them again a few chapters later. I shed some tears in the latter part of the book but very happy to learn what had happened to all the characters that I had become so interested in and indeed some quite attached to. After the end we are told what happened to the real people in this novel. I rarely give top marks but six stars out of five for this one.
