Angel

Don't be thrown off by the first eps animation. The story-line, plot, and characters are all interesting. As for the visuals, the creators really toned it down after the first ep so it's just as good as other animes with a few surprises here and there. The anime is what got me into the novel and I'm real thankful for that!
