I'm so confused why anyone would rate this more than one star. This movie endorses following someone on their solo trip, uninvited, and relentlessly pursuing them by "saving" them and telling them what to do, even after they say no various times, without being forthcoming about your own feelings for them. It says that this is an effective way for a man to get a woman to fall for him. It's 2023, how is this toxic narrative still alive?
Additionally, there is no character development, most dialogue was pointless, and the plot was flat and unrealistic.
Lastly, Beckett's final speech at the end of the trip contained eugenic undertones and ascribed to narratives of white environmentalism, which is rooted in white supremacy.
Also, side note, did anyone else feel like the outdoor retailers conspired to bring us this movie as a subliminal instructional video on how do hiking in the wilderness? It drills the principle of "Leave no trace" into the audience's minds and thoroughly describes how to set up a bear proof food storage system. As a movie, it blows, but it would be somewhat entertaining as an instructional video on hiking in the wilderness.
