Sooo many angles to this movie, for this viewer. We're first introduced to this pastoral setting of family, at a pond; later in this expansive family home. Then we learn the father is a German Officer stationed at Auschwitz Concentration Camp. As the film unfolds, we frequently see smoke from the Auschwitz camp and faint screams, cries; occasional gun shots. Hitlers name is evoked at times. This a film about the extermination of war prisoners, without direct focus on the cruelty. Sandra Hueller is almost unrecognizable, after being seen in Anatomy Of A, Fall, with
an excellent performance. Christian Friedel is outstanding as the camp Officer, husband, father. . The ending scenes bring seemingly ordinary clothing and personal items, showing the magnitude of the extermination. A thought provoking and unique film.
