Well, that was awful. Where to begin? I get that there are some folks who miss the old Trek, but part of the reason we love it was that it was the first. 50 years later, the primacy that justified all the cringe-worthy things just doesn't exist. All the things we mocked at the time are back again, only with better graphics. Which things? Let's see: the embarrassing Kirk-fu hand-to-hand combat, the disguises, the "let's send our most senior officers into the riskiest situation we can find..." And the ending. Ermagerd. I was waiting for Pike to ask for a guitar so we could all sing "Kumbaya." I mean, I don't mind my suspenders being stretched a little, but every "oh-puleeeze" just took me out of the story. Hey, here's an idea: instead of looking backward with better equipment how about we look forward?
