Keeping the replacement of Johnny Depp out of it, this movie is a waste of the potential it had. It’s like the writers sat down, decided to write a poorly put together fan fiction, and disregard the vast majority of the rules and facts within the Harry Potter universe.
Just basic things ignored:
-You have to touch port keys for them to transport you, they don’t just suck you in. Same with side-along apparition. You have to hold onto the person.
-The movie takes place in 1932, McGongall was born 1935. So she’s teaching at Hogwarts at -3 years old.
-Arianna’s portrait in DH PT2, that’s above the mantle place, moves, she legit leads the students into the hidden passageway. This one, same portrait, her portrait is frozen.
- Avada Kedavra kills instantly, so why did the Qilin die a slow death?
- There is no spell to stop a killing curse, yet Dumbledore uses one to save Credence?
-Grindlewald States Dumbledore abandoned him, but we know that after the duel, Grindlewald fled.
-Why didn’t credence just kill Newt when Newt was knocked out?
Complex issue ignored:
- The international Wizard Federation has a lot of power in this movie then in any of the original HP movies. So they could have done something during Voldemort’s reign, they just chose not to.
- If just the thought of betraying Grindlewald almost killed Dumbledore, then any time Grindlewald tried to manipulate someone into working against Dumbledore would have led the same curse to have killed him. Also the moment both decided to duel each other, both should have been on the floor in agonizing pain.
-Also If breaking the locket breaks the curse, why didn’t someone do that ages ago? So basically the whole blood curse thing was a useless plot device. If it doesn’t break the curse, then why aren’t both of them dead?
-If we’re making someone forget their sister, why not make them forget their loyalty to Dumbledore?
-If Grindlewald can see into the future enough that the team has to make multiple plans to “confuse” him, and make it up as they go, because he’d have seen it, then Grindlewald would also know of each plan as they are making it, and enough to know how each would end.
-We also know from HP that prophecies are pretty much set in stone, they really can’t be changed, and the ending is the ending. For example, Harry must sacrifice himself and “die”. Since there’s already a prophecy in the second movie, and Grindlewald can see the future, he already knows the outcome that is, in fact, set in stone.
- Muggles can use wands? I thought the wand connects with your magical core, allowing the user to hone their power. Yet, in this movie we give a muggle a wand and he’s just casting spell after spell. How? We just going to ignore the fact that it would mean he’s not, in fact, a muggle?
Things left out:
-Nagini? Like I thought she was important.
-The whole Lestrange family/Sinking Ship plot line from the previous movie.
And those are just the glaringly obvious plot holes, I am sure there are a ton more I have missed, all over a very slow movie story line.
