Em Zazen

I was disappointed that the movie didn’t go more in depth with such a serious topic. It spent too much time on the setup of the story and I waited for it to get to the heart of the history of abuse and how it effected her as a young girl and as an adult but it never went there. It showed what happened but it didn’t delve into why it made her make the choices she did. And it didn’t show how she decided to break the pattern. The lack of the deeper understanding and the pain of what this really does to families was missing. Had it delved deeper emotionally it could have discovered what it took for her to stop the cycle and brought the audience into the gut wrenching position she was in. Even though I could sympathize, I wanted more of a true understanding of her mindset. This delicate topic deserved more discussion and introspection by the main characters. Instead it wrapped up neatly and gave me the ending I expected.
