This is probably the most effective horror movie I've ever seen . I can't think of another movie that is so brutally honest about it's subject matter that it refuses to allow the viewer to do anything other than take this deadly seriously . No camp ( even though there are times when you think it's got to be going for that a little bit but it doesn't) here . I remember watching The Day After when I was a kid . That seems like a dream vacation someplace beautiful when compared to Threads. I would like to think that they got it wrong but I have this sinking feeling that it's probably more accurate than not. The clinical & droning narration from time to time actually very cleverly sets up some of it's own horror brilliantly & the during the last scene & halfway expected some deformed mutant to come jumping out at us but the thing about this movie is that it doesn't need deformed , mutant babies to be terrifying. It accomplishes that all on its own . Damn, this movie is EFFECTIVE . You really do feel like you've been kicked in the gut after watching this .

If your are a horror movie fan this is one of those unheralded little gems that you troll through your streaming services looking for but very seldom find . Released in 2016 I had never known of it until I ran into it on Showtime's streamer . Somewhat remeniscent of The Babadook but this movie has more heart than that one did. Really about the extremely troubled relationship between a mother & daughter with outstanding performances by both actresses here & the monster is an old school throwback to the heydey of practical fx . There's reality to the narrative that I think must mirror somebody's real life experiences minus the monster. Probably the writer . This is very , very good .

This is good. Real good but only for fans of 80s horror like John Carpenter's The Thing & other sci fi / horror or ' cosmic horror' films . If you enjoy H.P. Lovecraft stories & movies based on his films which usually kind of suck , this is definitely the movie for you . The Void doesn't suck. Other than the original Alien & the aforementioned The Thing, The Void is probably the best example of a true H.P Lovecraft type story ever made.
