I saw this movie at home with my wife using a free Red Box rental. Upon first watch, I didn’t enjoy it as much as I hoped and we had to return it the following day. It wasn’t until 2049 hit streaming that I was able to watch it again -this time with headphones- that I was taken aback in the best way possible. The soundstage created by Zimmer and the sound engineers was truly immersive and I couldn’t look away because of Roger Deakins absolute mastery of his craft. Here we are, several years after the release of this film and I believe people like me are finally learning to appreciate what Denis Villeneuve assembled with this masterpiece - and I truly mean it is a masterpiece film. I deeply regret not seeing this movie in theaters because I contributed to this movie not doing well at the box office. I hopefully made up for that by purchasing the digital copy…then bought the 4K BluRay with ANOTHER digital copy (this time in 4K) and spreading the good word about this incredible film.
This is one of my favorite movies of all time now, and I find myself watching it regularly on my second monitor while I work just to hear it. If you’re thinking about watching this movie, I always instruct people to put their phone down, remove all outside distractions, and WATCH and listen to every second of this film. You’ll be on the edge of your seat for this “slow burn” as you follow “K” and uncover his story along with him.
