I am a woman, 20 years old. I love these religious, cult like movies like Midsommar, since they are compelling and get me to the edge of my seat. I also love women empowerment as it is, which is what originally pulled me to this movie. However this movie utterly disappointed me. I don’t know how even a film scholar could rate this 5 stars. It would be wonderful for a short film, 15 minutes or less, since the ENTIRE film is based off of one conversation in one room the whole time. The description of the movie is intriguing if not horrifying, and morbid curiosity got me, and I regret it. Not once was there an action packed scene (and I don’t crave seeing violence against women, but there is actually nothing of substance to watch), and it was dull and excruciatingly boring. The women have one question, “to go or not to go” and it happens for an hour and 30 minutes. I don’t recommend unless you want to fall asleep. There is some good lessons in there, but you could learn them from a 10 minute Ted Talk.
