This show is like a jenga tower that is standing on one brick, which in this metaphor that one brick is the father character. For a Doctor, they made him a foolish pushover because if they didn't then the tower would crumble and the storyline would collapse. It's not just lazy writing, it's bad writing, and it's unfortunate because this story had potential if the writers had only given it some legs to stand on.
