'An assault on not just Ken but all men'
- Piers Morgan
Now I had no genuine idea where this movie was going; but growing up I played with barbie as well as consumed a fair amount of her media. I saw the first initial trailer and saw the snippets that the movie released here and there but that was it.
The movie was executed beautifully. The costumes, set design, and cast was amazing. The cast was diverse without having any token characters. No one stands out as just being there because of the 'woke media'.
The movie really drives home the theme of barbie (and Ken) can be anyone and anything.
The writing, done by Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach, does a wonderful job at pushing the boundaries of adult humor and nostalgia while still being enjoyable for any age. Nothing too explicit. The writers are able to balance the emotional beats so well that it does not feel out of place. The line delivery brings home the point that Great and Noah are trying to make. There are some points where it's hard not to tear up.
Do consider giving this movie a watch as it's not crossing the picket line and the inclusion of people from all walks of life shows that these are the stories that need to be told. People have voices that need to be uplifted and we're tired of the same stories over and over.
Piers Morgan, if you wanted people to take you seriously you shouldn't have rhymed. I need a t-shirt.
Rest in peace Ruth Handler, your legacy us still alive and well today. May the story you wanted to tell live on forever. Love you friend :)
