It seems I’m the only one who thoroughly enjoyed the 2022 movie adaptation of Jane Austen’s Persuasion. It’s a fun mix of Jane Austen’s story, a Bridget Jones version of Anne Elliott with the diversity of Bridgerton, so it’s taken some poetic license with the 1817 novel, and I suppose Austen purists took umbrage with the update. That said, I found Dakota Johnson delightful as Anne and especially liked when she broke the fourth wall, ala Bridget Jones. I read some rather unflattering reviews of Cosmo Jarvis’s performance as Captain Wentworth, but I’m not sure how they missed the longing and tension between Anne and the Captain. I found their pain palpable. So, there we go. I loved it.
