I was really hoping Barbie was gonna live up to the hype of being a pro-feminist, anti-patriarchy movie, and I feel like it tries and semi-successfully does that, but the end really didn't sit right with me. ~spoilers ahead~ I hate that none of the Ken's take responsibility for ruining the barbies lives and literally making them their brainwashed patriarchy inspired version of a dream doll, and when the Barbies take back power over Barbieland, Barbie apologizes TO KEN, who caused all of it, and he never takes responsibility! Worse, he and all the other Ken's are displayed as mindless perpetrators of the patriarchy. It sends the message that if men do wrong but they didn't realize they were doing wrong, it's not their fault because they didn't know. But if women ignore men and the men get mad and abuse them, it's the woman's fault. It really comes out of the left field too, as it happens right at the end, and it seems to be building up to a powerful pro feminism message, but then instead you get... that. Super disappointed and also really confused why everyone is hailing this as a pro-feminist movie.
