What I love about this movie is I know where I am. Movies, and books that entrench us in the ambiance make a greater connection with the audience. It's very clear where I am. My feet are solidly planted in the sweltering south. It works for the characters too. I absolutely am there, and believing this alcoholic woman's story. Amy Adam's did a fantastic job acting her character..... better then any I've seen acting a person with functional alcoholism. It's a slow brew, but you are so nestled into their world that it's ok. There are some weird pauses where I think dialog between characters could have felt warmer, but maybe that was intentional. Over all it was perfection. Really kept you thinking til the very end.

Completely unenjoyable. The acting was fine, but the story was boring. I kept waiting, but no just boring.

I thought it was horrible. It eluded to the notion that forgiveness could save the world of the horrors of abuse. That gets us no where. Mental health, and exhausting talks with our children about what's not ok as far as sexual, emotional, and physical abuse go. Better social worker education would also help. This movie basically says if someone beats, rapes, or murders you its ok cause its God plan, and you have to love his plan. It goes against any actual help to prevent future casualties from abuse.
