TLWR: Reminds me of the CoD series I got bored of and stopped playing had baby with Battlefield, a series I find generally unpalatable. I dislike it but tastes obviously differ.
I played CoD consecutively, year after year, starting with the original Modern Warfare but the series grew stale and wonky and I hadn't purchased a CoD for years before I got back into the series through the entry before Black Ops 4, WW2.
WW2 was fast, quick action. It was enjoyable and left me curious for the next one.
BO4 came out and I scoffed at the unique abilities and colourful art style. Yet, it turned out to be better fast-paced action than WW2 and I found that the less realistic setting allowed for more upbeat fun than any previous entry to the series. Myself and my friends group ended up playing black ops 4 much longer and any other call of duty we ever played together. I was hoping for something similar - the new Modern Warfare definitely is not it.
The setting of the game feels somber and depressing. The guns look stretched somehow. The level design is overly-complicated and very conducive to camping. the play feels as far from B04's as Battlefield's.
Speaking of Battlefield, MW2019 should have been called MW: Field of Battle. The handling feels a bit more like Battlefield in FoB. The sounds are a bit closer to Battlefield's in FoB. The different modes in FoB are extremely reminiscent of Battlefield. Basically, for those who enjoy Battlefield, congratulations, you get 2 this year.
I very much dislike the direction the CoD series has gone with MW3019 but for all I know, I'm in the minority. Take what I say with a grain of salt; try it for yourself before you buy it and make your own judgement.
