I remember my mom driving me to Toys R Us back in 2007 and buying me this game. This was a game I took with me everywhere as a kid. My neighbor would get a copy of his own within the following months and we would play each other. Eventually I lost the game while playing outside or something like that. A few years later I started middle school in a new town with kids I didn’t know. There was a small group of boys who would all play Mario Kart’s Battle Mode during lunch. So the next day I brought my old DS and joined them. Even though I had lost mine there was an amazing feature on the DS where you up to seven people could all join in and play as long as one person had a game and hosted a download play group. Fast forward to me in high school. I finally have money of my own and bought myself a new copy of Mario Kart DS on Amazon. It wasn’t till I was 17 years old did I realize how much faster the speed of the karts would move compared to older and even newer games in the series. Another great feature would give you the power to draw/create logos for your Kart. Mario Kart 7, which was the follow up to DS was released almost ten years later and while it did have better graphics, I felt the gameplay was too easier and the speed always felt like you were driving in a school zone compared to DS. Also, Mario Kart DS has Waluigi as a playable character, 7 had Honey Queen. If that’s not a good enough reason to why DS was better I don’t know what is.
