I would just like to state that it has been a long time since I have enjoyed a film as much as I enjoyed 1917. It was a ride from start to finish. I seldom give film and other media 5 stars because I don't think many things deserve it, but this film definitely was one of the best films to come out of 2019.
Overall, the film's score and cinematography are excellent. Each shot is like a work of art and the actors do an excellent job of making their dire situation believable. The bombed-out cities and the barren, devastated battlefields like "no man's land" fill the viewer with dread as it shows how unforgiving the first world war was. The dead bodies are a constant reminder that death is around the corner for any soldier.
