This is 2 different movies. The first hour or so is awful - very dull 1960s suburban America with no interesting storyline. But once the family moves to California, the social issues come out and the movie comes to life. If it had started at this point, it would be worth 3 stars. As it is, I definitely wouldn't waste my time seeing it.
