Yes it's another negative review from someone who read the book and didn't like the direction of the screen adaptation.
I know that books need to be "adapted" to the screen, but there were artistic choices made that seemed arbitrarily different. I kept hearing the directors saying "wouldn't it be cool if...". You're not a better writer than RKM. You had 2 seasons of shows there's no excuse to second guess the author. He's the reason you have a job. If you can't see the genius in his work, maybe this wasn't the right project for you.
Let's list a few problems:
TK is a gritty, tough hard man. In both seasons, the actors were clean-cut. Yes I know they are just bodies, but would s1 TK shave his chest hair? Would s2 TK have a neatly trimmed beard? Neither actor captured the essence of the man.
Combining Ray and his sister? The infinitesimally small chance that TK and his sister would end up together, millions of light years away from their home world? And she would become what is essentially one of several rulers of the planet?
Ray / his sister was played like a severely mentally ill person, acting completely irrationally. The same person that managed to travel millions of light years and become ruler of a planet. People that act irrationally don't become rulers of planets. Ray was a shrewd, hard, intelligent, physically tough person. She was lacking in morality but not insane.
Whatever you think about the portrayal of TK in s1 vs. s2, they were disjointed. The important thing would have been to have them act in the same style... accent, body language, patterns of speech, and so one. They just did not seem like the same person. S2 actor had verbal affectations that made him seem out of place in the future, and just different than the person we knew in s1.
