Janis and the Reaper is one of the best new works out there. Griggs has created a direct descendant of Gaiman’s American Gods with the fantastic twist of no spicy content and a bit less family drama. Multiple points of view are handled beautifully and without confusion, and make it easy to connect with and adore the protagonists.
The supporting cast is just as easily beloved, characters hailing from around the world and from all walks of life come together to form a diverse and beautiful cast with someone for everyone to love. You may even discover some new beings you never knew existed!
With nearly all of the settings in the book being based in reality, the fantastical nature of the storyline is grounded and relatable despite being about creatures and entities. The plot deals with very human emotions and experiences, but opens your mind to what else could possibly be out there through the introduction of a wide selection of folklore and myth from across the globe.
Griggs has created a beautiful world to discover and one you’ll wish you could live in, and come back to visit time and time again.
