Spoiler warning.
I finished the show, though it was on 1.5x Speed and I was constantly skipping ahead 10 seconds just to get through it.
I've never been more annoyed with a main character.
Jade is impulsive, selfish, manipulative and downright stupid. For a character that's meant to be genetically modified at birth to be smarter than everybody else the writers obviously had no idea how to actually achieve that other than an offhand comment that she could speak Spanish at 4 years old.
Billie is an insecure girl who blames her problems on everyone else but herself, causing the apocalypse apparently in her denial that she's responsible for anything but herself.
The dad's acting was good but the character itself felt hollow even after finding out he was a clone who just wanted to live in freedom.
And I can't even remember the zombies really because they're hardly present or important, oh you need someone to die to feel sadness? you're trapped in a building and need to distract your abductees? you need to escape a shootout? they were purely a used a plot device for Jade to get out of a sticky situation and to give her some depth. but they gave her legendary plot armour so nothing she or they did had any meaning except to make you hate her more.
What was the point of this show? The budget was obviously there because visually it's a fully fleshed out, it seems the writers were hired to make an unforgettable show with a well known IP in hopes to bring young teens in for another months subscription.
And mentioning the 'woke' narrative I honestly didn't pickup on it, they weren't actively pushing against racial/sexual stereotypes so It never stood out for me. Check out Tom Swift on amazon prime for something so cringy you'll struggle to get past the first episode.
1 star for the dad, 1 start for the set design
