I've watched the Pilot episode (which had me laughing out loud within the first 2 minutes) and the first six or seven episodes of Season 1. I've gotta say that, even though I try to approach TV series with no expectations, my expectations for this series blew up after I watched the first couple of episodes. So now, I'm goin' to be extremely disappointed if it all crashes by the end. And "the end" is what matters most to me ("it's not how you start, but how you finish...").
So many TV series wind up fizzling creatively by the end of their runs - ending with tired cliches, saccharine storylines, etc. So hopeful that doesn't/didn't happen with this series. We'll see...
The first comparison that (instantly) came to my mind between this and other series is with The Larry Sanders Show. That show preceded this one by about a decade, but was/is so similar to 30 Rock (with its satire of the TV & Entertainment industries and their social politics) that there's an easy comparison there. Also, The Office (of course), which came later.. And even Curb Your Enthusiasm - one of my all-time favorite TV series - with its Reality TV aesthetic: no studio audience or canned laughter (which so many of us grew up with - and detested - as kids and young adults).
I've ultimately been disappointed in TV series before, though, so again...we'll see. But I liked Tina Fey and Tracy Morgan on SNL (maybe the last time that show was funny), Alec Baldwin, Jane Krakowski...
Maybe this show was as different as it seems.
