So far i love it. Fun to watch, beautiful to look at, acting is good and the story is very engrossing. I like the ethnic/cultural mix of characters. Im not a purist, just enjoying a fantasy world that feels both familiar and new in this prequel. More to be revealed. Great way to spend a few hours on a hot summer day. Will definitely keep watching.

I personally saw the Meryl Streep character as a jarrimg amalgam of Donald trump and Hillary clinton. Seems to me McKay isn't just bashing the right, but also the liberal left who seem to care more about identity politics, their stock portfolios, pandering to the far left and pleasing lobbyists and donors than doing their job of representing all the people. Plenty of blame to go around. Good movie even from a “centrist used to be a liberal” perspective. Just take off your blinders and open your mind before you label it a “left” movie. By the way “follow the science” could be a reference, knowingly or not, to the lab leak hypothesis which is now gaining ground as the most likely scenario - so consider that. I don’t know what McKays personal politics are, but its clear to me that the main characters statement, “its all corrupt” hits its mark on both sides of the isle. Message: - recognize our common humanity and enjoy actually spending time with others. Forget the virtue signaling and social media madness. Great movie. Powerful, funny. Too close to the truth. Hope we learn.
