I love Hayley Mills as a child actress in this movie playing Gillie. The Polish sailor with whom she bonds and whom she helps is great also. Touching movie well-conceived, well-written and well acted.

I was puzzled by the refusal to deliver a traditional oater.. Don't give me deep meaning rich in ambiguity. Give me good characters fighting the bad with courage and clarity of purpose and winning. Once upon a Time in the West captures the boredom of reality.
