Brilliant show, and I’m hard to please! Everyone is perfectly cast, particularly Tom Ellis as Lucifer. The relationships, impeccable acting, and individual transformations remind me of those in The West Wing; that’s the tv series’ secret sauce. The urban LA backdrop, phenomenal music (both background and by the cast members), gorgeous actors (all of them—check out Maze), and clever cultural/biblical references and one-liners more than make up for the somewhat formulaic crime story lines. The devil is in the details of this series (as well as in the brilliant performance by Ellis). The show has been the ideal antidote for the real-world challenges of the prolonged pandemic, Russia-Ukraine war, and global regression of democracy (particularly in the US). it’s immensely entertaining and the perfect way to rebound from a heavy work day. I’m on my third round and am still catching script and story elements I missed the first two times. This is not your ordinary crime drama. Themes of redemption, love and friendship, and (celestial) family dysfunction will resonate with many viewers.
