shaolin soccer is a cinematic masterpiece comparable to movies such as the likes of Forrest Gump and pulp fiction. Stephen Chow created a soccer film that has everything anyone could want. Drama, love ,action, sport... IT HAS IT ALL.
The film follows a character called sing who can kick very hard. After his masters death he reunites his other brothers to form a soccer team called shaolin soccer. The team is coached by a former player who missed a penalty in a finals game and everyone hates him so he see's this as a chance for redemption. This plot is sure to tug you're heart strings. When I was watching I couldn't help but sympathise with these characters and the challenges they faced. After their master died they didn't know how to cope and rather than following their masters training they had to go into regular modern life and fit into society forgetting the amazing adventures they used to have as kids.
The use of characters is also amazing. As stated before many characters have different struggles and the only way they where able to get through them was to connect with their old shaolin roots through a soccer game where they were able to go back to their childhoods and connect over the fun and enjoyment they used to have. I also find it poetic that the villain is the person almost controlling the world who has all the money he would need to win but having no heat for the game. The villain being the opposite of the shaolin team is very poetic.
Overall Shaolin soccer is a beautiful movie that reminds us as a society to take a step back from the modern life loop that we are all in and just enjoy the life we have, connect with our childhoods and just overall enjoy the journey. if you haven't watched it already, this should be your number one next watch.
p.s. Shaolin soccer saved my marriage
