I watched it with an open mind. I had not seen a ton of reviews about it prior. I did not know what to expect, and I really enjoyed it. During my childhood, we made up our own dances - influenced from media as we weren’t afforded the luxury of dance instructors. I had different cultural exposures and experienced awkwardness of trying to fit in. I felt connected to the plot of the film. It was not until after I watched the film that I have seen all of the controversy. All that being said everyone has their own experience. I personally enjoy movies that are inspiring and have real-life meaning behind them. If those are the type of films you enjoy than I suggest seeing it, if not don’t. I feel that many people are judging the film based on the controversy and have not even watched it, or are now watching it after having the predisposition that it is pedo-bate and therefore can’t get past that mindset to see the real meaning. Unfortunately “Q” is all up in people’s heads and if they are wanting to “cancel” a film like this than they need to consider what their kids are being exposed to on social media, phones, dance, cheer, etc, because at the end of the day pedophiles don’t just seek out children in movies, and I can’t help but feel that blame is being passed onto parents and children for their roles, instead of on perversion of actual perpetrators.
