**Spoiler-free**
If you like cRPGs like Divinity: Original Sin 2; Dragon Age: Origins; Pillars of Eternity; this is in that vein. The world-building is rich and original.
The writing is 10/10 and perhaps the game's greatest strength. After character creation, you debut as an evil overlord's vassal tasked with the duty of colonizing a small peninsula. Decisions you make in the first hour of playtime will revisit you in your twentieth hour and you will be delighted for it. It's paced very well and never overstimulates you with too much information at once. The characters are mildly interesting but nobody stands out (except perhaps, Barik). Their dialogue however, is quite good. And the bits of narrative that are purely sensory are really well done.
The pausable real-time combat gameplay learning curve is about average. I struggled at first because I prefer turn-based strategy, but after a few quick-loads, the normal difficulty didn't present much of a challenge.
If you have ever wanted to play the villain that gets away with it, try this out. It's about 20 hours with a lot of replay value.
