I'm not a "critic" However I am a big fan of the series and after the 2016 reboot I had low expectations but after watching Afterlife its clear a lot of love and care went into this one.
Overall I enjoyed it from start to end with a great mix of wonderful writing, pacing, fan service while also treading new ground. A nice tease at the end with more to come and after watching this movie and being a fan of the OGs I would say they mostly have it down.
Some people think the fan service is a little to much and to them I say maybe the Ghostbusters franchise isn't for you. Most successful franchises have fan service and ties to what came before, GBA is no different and I think they have a good approach from writing to design to practical FX and CG to the adorably deadly mini puffs, new designs, returning designs of creatures, The new characters are actually enjoyable and feel like actual people and so much more. Watching this made me feel like I was genuinely watching a well done and thought out sequel done in modern day and I'm all for it.
As a fan in my 20s this scratches that itch and it makes me really happy.
Don't go in expecting a Ghostbusters 3 at least in the traditional sense, Go in expecting a Ghostbusters 3 that's familiar yet a bit different which at least for me is to be expected 37 years later.
They had one hell of a task on there hands with making a sequel and trying to do everything right and squeeze it into 2 hours yet somehow they did it.
Fingers crossed they continue what they did here and take all the time and care they need to get it right going forward.
Everyone that worked on this Movie should feel very proud especially the people that are the children of the people that created the first GB movies that worked on this.
Took 37 years but I actually look forward to more from this franchise and more from this crew of people that created this movie and took there time, I wish them the best. The internet can be kinda harsh let alone fans of well loved franchises.
