Season 1 was leagues above its successor. The main leads are disappointing. Frederick is a sulking bore, and the actor’s wooden performance does little to redeem his character’s transgressions and repetitive flashbacks. Clara is sweet but annoyingly naive to a degree that frustrates and disconnects from the audience.
The series’ only saving grace are its minor characters, such as Reverend and Emily. Everything else is found wanting.
