One of the best period films in my opinion. Perhaps not the most thrilling subject as other period pieces but what it is depicting it does so perfectly. Also it plays very modern, including a more diverse cast then say the Other Bolyne Girl which would be the logical predecessor to this film as it is the story of both Elizabeth's father and mother as well as how England became enemies with the Catholics. There is so so much to be learned from these periods in history to understand today both about power dynamics and women- or moreso men and all their inadequaties with ruling. As for the film itself you couldn't ask for better performances from everyone in the cast esp Margot Robbie and Saoirse Ronan as our Queens. Also the hairstyles and the sets really throw you right into the period without being distracting- one almost might say it is inaccurate bc it's so well done and sometimes modern like noblemen wearing beanies. Anyways it's a great movie and I can't imagine a critic having anything bad to say about it, but I'm sure they will.. they always want to say it was a failure in a line of box office bombs by Robbie incl Bombshell but it's not the Avengers and it wasn't made to entertain for a night; it's to be watched several times esp to absorb and catch all the relevant information and it will stand up in years to come.

So cool to read others' thoughts. I watch many shows like Succession, American Crime Story, SVU.. Right now is sort of the Golden Age of informational tv and/or introspective tv on society and how history has played out & where we find ourselves today like The Dropout, Dopesick and Impeachment..hell, even Pam & Tommy tells you so much about America then and gives real insight and answers to how screwed up we are rn. I'm about to rewatch this show tho for the 10th time. I work from home so I watch a lot of TV, but CANNOT watch something useless or even funny for the sake of entertainment. The Americans is the best show on tv during it's run, as SO SO many reviews would say on the commercials. I don't think we are supposed to root for them tho which is the beauty is to say how messed up Russia is and how scared of them we should be.. but thank God they don't sugar coat the KGB ya know.. it would be dangerous almost. They were soldiers just like Americans were in WW2 or The Great War as Russia called it. It's awful the killings and the creators were responsible in depicting them as such. Also a lot of FX at the time shows up in these shows, it's only flaws in earlier seasons. I love the pace which is why it's so important to watch it twice at least or you'll miss it bc it can be slow but thorough so we understand instead of left w a bunch of plot holes but the final season is so intense, dark and depressing. How else would it end though for KGB in America? We need an Americans miniseries event though next! Dead Hand in S6 is so interesting to learn about. Russia is the world's threat and this show helps you to understand how and why, not just hate or disagree. Facism seems to be contagious bc of power given to the rich. Anyone's government can produce a population that thinks these ways. It's a valuable gem in scripted television and there's nothing else comparable to the specific gift this show gives you and also delivers on pure entertainment value! I only wish Keri Russell won an Emmy like Matt did for the last season, esp since so many hate her character is an ode to her performance! The world has many tragedies and it's a wonderful depiction of the situation that time in history. On the dvd featurettes we learn that Russian illegals were arrested in 2011... food for thought ;)) watch this show tho fr fr!!
