Unplayable. From a huge, now former, Bioware fan.
It's beautiful, good characters, all ruined by overexposition and bad pacing for both gameplay and storytelling. The combat was fun at first, then became monotonous. That plus the messy writing made me feel bored and sad for what the franchise has become.
Bought on steam and 16 hours of playtime later, had to quit. Unfortunately, no refund possible. If you want to give it a go, just skip the character creation and actually play for 2 hours. All the problems of the game can be seen early on and for me, it didn't get better. Heard the last 2 hours of playtime out of 50 are good but realized I just wasn't having fun anymore. Combat became boring, puzzles felt insultingly easy, I never felt a connection or understood the agency of my playable character, and when I finally got to companion interactions, I couldn't stand the poor dialogue.
Side note on the LGBTQIA+ content, I just wish it was done well. I loved Krem in Inquisition. Everything on point, from voice acting to writing and design. But for veilguard, it suffers from the same bad writing as the whole rest of the game. Super disappointing.
RIP Bioware.
