This is one of the most articulated monograph on caste identity from the other side. The reader needs to be a little patient to adapt to rigorous style of writing. However, once one succeeds to navigate first 30- 40 pages, it is extremely enriching to read not only about the brahmins and their caste identity but also their transformation from rural identity to urban identity that made them grapple with the questions of brahminsness and modernity at the same time.
