I started the series with some hesitation. Due mostly in part to the open interpretation of characters and historical directions. They lacked and were created from some whimsy and I didn't want to watch another show where there is no history of any aspect as rewriting everything and glossing over some things makes for the "warm and fuzzies" for fussy people. You cannot gloss over history or tweak it to change what was the deal, especially in the South.
Having said that...
The story in of itself is stellar! The variations of tweaking with it are easy enough to overlook for the most part. But anyone staying hardcore true to Rice's novel will get tweaky.
So head into it with a fresh mind and not what she had originally written and you will find her "bones" within it but the "flesh" will be just a bit different but nonetheless enticing when you start to feast.
A well-done series!!
