The father of a young boy dies and a couple years later the widow remarries. Pretty soon this new couple and their young boy move out of state rather unexpectedly without telling the grandparents. The grandparents (Kevin Costner and Diane Lane) of the boy decide that their grandson needs to grow up in a more fit environment like for example theirs. So they go to North Dakota to get him (and the mother if she wants to tag along). Then what happens is Grandpa gets half his hand chopped off and so then later the grandparents kidnap the boy and end up killing all the members of the boy's new 'criminal' family. This includes the boy's step dad and his new grandma and 3 uncles. And even old Kevin meets his maker during all the excitement. With all this killing going on somebody has started the 'outlaws' house on fire and it burns down to the ground. Looks like Grandma and the boy and his mom should be ok now. I wanted to stop watching this movie about halfway in but I kept trudging along and gotta say this was a total waste of time.
