I hate the actress "Waterson", didn't like her interviews. Felt like she was avoiding the lesbian issue, two women in love in the 1800's. It's like she refused to talk about it. I know people wish that it didn't matter, but we're not there yet. The fact that it's about lesbians is critical. Imagine it heterosexual. How important, notable or good is the movie then??? Uh, HMMM. I can't even watch Waterson anymore cause all I see is her interviews in which she doesn't address, the passion one should have about bringing to LIFE, the hardships of being queer, of being a woman no less in the 1800's. That's insane. Moving on to the actual movie, at first, it's an okay movie, but then,,,as it wears on you, AFTER you watch it, you see how important it was. No one has been representing OUR voices. It's always been from someone else's perspective. 2020 was a great year for lesbian women. We were finally being shown as we truly are. How our love and relationships are. I loved Kirby's performance. It was lovely. And I can tell she took great care to get it right. The looks, the feeling. Whoever helped with the script and modeled our behavior was wonderful. Because we don't act like str8 women. We've been oppressed and inhibited, and our courtship is NOT like a man and woman's. We've lacked the freedom, but also, there is no male, so it's quit "unique" . So as far as the movie is concerned. I think it's one that may just be around for a long time. Like I said, at first it was just an okay, run of the mill movie, but when you think about it. It's much more. Perhaps I will watch it again to see how it feels a second time. It felt very true, so I like it despite the ONE. The one is for Waterson - Sorry, she is forever branded in my mind as the woman who avoided talking about a lesbian movie being lesbian. In a time when it still matters. It's only been ONE year since our stories have been told correctly. A movie about lesbians, done correctly, is SIGNIFICANT. Ammonite was a nice movie, but it was lacking. No backstory. You had to read up on the character first to enjoy it. And the behavior was off. I could barely imagine those actions taking place in THAT time. So this movie was important, it may not have had the big splash as broke back mountain, but it definitely has its place. ** Spoiler coming **(just finished reading some others posts. let me say this: the missery and anguish, i loved because we have lived misserable lives, starved of love, with our dreams and longings denied. the movie did not pretend. Tallies love got her killed. I would think that's common. It's the 1800's. I think people are sick of lesbian death and rightfully so, but in this context, it's right. She fell in LOVE, and she loved her to a fault. It go her killed. - that and a sloppy lover, she should've NEVER committed that to pen and paper. Too much at stake. What if somebody found it?? - and somebody did )
