Ayyapanum Khoshiyum is absolutely a feast for our eyes. Sachy has succeeded in accelerating the curiosity of the audience from the beginning to the end to know who wins the combat. Both the heroes are a blend of vices and virtues. Neither of them is portrayed as an epitome of goodness like the heroes of majority of movies. Audience celebrate the victory of Ayyapan(Biju menon) than Khoshy (Prithviraj).Kudos to Prithviraj for accepting the role. The film will stimulate your nerves to remain with crossed fingers till the end. But the film supports patriarchy and masculine pride in all means. Although Ayyapanum Khoshiyum presents the fight between two social classes and castes, corruption of power, relegation of the powerless and the rest, the film is primarily the wrestle between two men to establish their alpha male status. Moreover,Khoshy is a puppet in the hands of his father who is a representative of aggressive masculine smugness. "Veetil irikunna pennungal" blows as a refrain throughout the movie. The women characters are silenced with a few dialogues. The movie in all its sense reestablishes gender roles. The dialogue by Khoshy to Kittumani not to involve women at home in the fight exhibit the stereotype that they are incapable for the same. Sachy has tried to portray Kannamma as a strong woman, but the motherisation of Kannamma again weakens her. The act of Khoshy slapping Ruby is justified in the film as something to promote her to speak out. But how could a smack on her face be justified as something to unshackle her? The film is unequivocally all beer and skittles. But Ayyapanum Khoshiyum reestablishes gender roles and patriarchy.
