Unlike a lot of these prior reviews, this is not copied and pasted to boost the score. This was a birthday present that I was gifted when the game first launched and I played it, and beat it, at least a dozen times collecting CP to unlock additional bonuses for the next play-through. I put this down at some point and didn’t touch it for a long time, but I just started playing it again and remembered why I fell in love with it. There’s more expansive, traditional horror here than your standard zombie apocalypse, Resident Evil storyline. It touches on all of the myths and stories that I loved as a kid while still tying everything together in the Resident Evil universe.
It isn’t extremely challenging to work through the combat and puzzles which is great for an aging millennial who grew up with this franchise from day one and who doesn't have the strongest attention span anymore, but if I were new to these games, it would still test me. I love that the level-based format and other arcade-like themes were left behind with this title as well. It feels organic and more like playing a genuine story.
Nothing feels rushed or clunky, the visuals and cutscenes are outstanding, and this title is going to hold strong over the years as a timeless name just as much as Resident Evil did when it first entered the arena of console gaming. This is one of my favorite games to come back to, time and time again.
