Exceptional film made me cry alot and I am not one who finds it easy to cry in my life this film literally opened the gates.
Heart felt, real to the point of being totally raw life and a story I can relate towards as can probably most parents especially.
To me it portrays superbly the struggles we all have on a varying spectrum: Anxiety, depression, low self esteem, self sabotage, binge drinking or in the case of the Whale binge eating to try and self medicate and escape the pain from feeling guilty, for feeling like your not a good parent etc and the damage it can do to us.
For the dad in this film a man named Charlie (Brendon Fraser) trapped literally in his extreme obese body (to the point of near death) and his apartment trying to reach out to his teenage daughter who calls him disgusting etc.
The constant loving words from Charlie to his friends and family including his ex-wife “I’m sorry .. I’m sorry” will literally rip your heart in two especially for those people who are caregivers and always apologising themselves. Many people will be able to relate to the kind of abuse and pain the character is experiencing.
Words can’t do it justice
One of the most moving films I ever seen
It has already started to transform how i look at my own life and some of my own unhealthy habits, sad but inspiring.
