Powerful and riveting. I understand that the book the movie is based upon has been debunked by some as likely not true in some aspects, but as a movie, it is a very believable portrayal of a certain way of life. As far as the recent controversy, Paquin's performance seemed very strong to me. Her character is expected to be silent when she appears. The audience can infer many meanings from her character's body language and facial expression. I think spoken words in those scenes would have narrowed and trivialized the complex interpretations felt the audience.

Inspiring story that remains realistic without resorting to sappy sentamentalism.
