This show was a really big part of my childhood, even if I thought it was no more than a fever dream for a big chunk of time.
It's very strange, having a show based on a game with a silent protagonist that isn't human, but that just shows what a lovable character Kirby truly is. I remember watching this on 4kids TV (before they went bankrupt). It was part of a weird craze that swept the teen/children's televised programming where channels were attempting to buy in on the hype of the stuff that was popular at the time... Video games.
And it really worked! I was always such a fan of the Kirby games that I naturally fell in love with the cartoon/anime as well. My household was a huge gaming household, and we basically had every single Nintendo system when they launched (well, at least for most of what I can remember! I'm only just about to turn 20). This means I spent a lot of time watching my brothers and my parents play games, and it really shaped me into who I am today- a proud nintenerd.
I recently decided to re-watch this series, mainly because one of my favorite youtubers made me aware of its existence once more, and thus... My marathon of the 100 episodes will begin shortly (I'm pretty sure I didn't make it through all of those as a kid).
Something I remember very clearly was that in some shots, King Dedede, Escargoon, or Kirby will suddenly be animated with 3D models... And it was such a strange thing, it looked really out of place from the normal animation, but somehow that just added to the silly, goofy charm of it all. Looking back on it now just makes it look dated- but again! It's charming in a way.
I long for the simple days that I could spend glued to the TV screen at my grandparent's house, hiding away from the summer heat and melting my brain like a popsicle.
TL;DR- I'm a nostalgic sap. I definitely recommend watching this series, even if just a few episodes! They were all a wild ride.
